Thank you again, Monica was surely Smiling Down on all of us!

Did you know that Melanoma Cancer affects approximately 4% of the nearly 79% of all skin cancer deaths?  There will be about 56,000 new cases of skin cancer diagnosed this year alone.

Monica Jensen was one of these numbers.  Monica was diagnosed about 4 years ago with Malignant Ocular Melanoma.  After what was thought successful removal of the cancer, she was able to live a happy and enjoyable life as a wife and mother of three young girls.  Then in September of 2006, she received the devastating news that the cancer had returned.  She traveled to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to find that it was stage IV Melanoma of her liver.  The news did not stop her from fulfilling her dreams and two days later she ran her first marathon with her twin sister.  She finished the race; however it would be the last race she ran.  Monica courageously fought the battle against this horrible disease and continued to live her life to the fullest, always smiling.  Eight months later on April 12, 2007, Monica was only 33 years old when she lost her battle.

The fight still continued, on April 21, 2007 only ten days after losing Monica, family and friends held a 5k benefit run in her honor.  Monica's home town of New Richmond, WI was filled with Monica's supporters; over 1000 people participated in the fight against Melanoma and to "keep smiling".  The benefit was amazing; a $1000 scholarship was awarded to a 2007 New Richmond High School graduate in memory of Monica's love for running.

The fight still continues, on April 12, 2008 family and friends will again honor Monica's memory by hosting the 2nd Annual Monica Jensen Scholarship Run in New Richmond, WI.  The proceeds will help fund another scholarship and a portion will be donated to the melanoma research department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

To continue the fight, we are asking for your help.  We are seeking businesses and individuals to help sponsor the 5k run and join our fight against Melanoma.  If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please click on the Sponsor link above.  Your sponsorship of $100 will also let your business name be displayed on the back of the race t-shirt.  This is not the only way you can help, donations in other forms are also greatly appreciated.  For more information, please contact:
